Adopt-A-Sites

The Adopt-A-Site program is a long-term volunteer opportunity that helps beautify public land throughout Akron. Volunteers commit to preparing, planting, and maintaining a flower garden at an approved site for the entire growing season. KAB supports each group by evaluating site topography, providing landscape guidance, assisting with first-year site preparation, offering wholesale plant purchasing options, and arranging free hydrant connections for watering. We also supply bags for cleanups and end-of-season debris removal, along with planting and maintenance instructions at our spring clinic.

Our Flowerscape Crew helps coordinate more than 64 Adopt-A-Sites across all ten wards of Akron. This program provides direction and support for volunteers who nurture these public gardens. Sites must meet basic criteria before approval, such as water accessibility. Each April, KAB hosts a hands-on training workshop, where the Flowerscape Director teaches volunteers how to successfully maintain their annual beds over the five-month season through an instructional presentation. All Adopt-A-Site volunteers are welcome to attend each year.

If you are interested in starting an Adopt-A-Site in your neighborhood, please contact the KAB Office at 330.375.2116. New volunteer groups are accepted January through March, so site ideas should ideally be shared with KAB by the previous fall to allow time for topography review and approval. If you’re interested at another time of year, we can gladly add your group to our “interested” list.

AAS Troubleshooting

If experiencing an issue with your Adopt-A-Site, call Keep Akron Beautiful at 330-375-2116 and provide us with the following information:

  • The exact location of your Adopt-A-Site
  • A callback phone number
  • A detailed description of your issue -Is your water source dripping, is there a major water leak or is there an issue caused by traffic? -Is the issue at ground level, the connection/backflow, or with the hydrant?
  • If you are having trouble explaining the issue, email a picture of the issue to KAB@keepakronbeautiful.wphaven.dev

IF AN EMERGENCY WATER BURST HAPPENS OVER THE WEEKEND, REPORT TO 3-1-1 (FROM CELL CALL330.375.2311).
